18th Dec. 2020: Installation of node welding cell completed

Robotized welding of nodes for offshore wind jackets is for some time a research and development subject. The expected potential for fatigue improvements, weight reduction and cost saving within the jacket manufacturing are driver for these developments. However, the complexity of multilayer welding, high tolerances and a varying seam preparation are prevent the industrial application till today.

Salzgitter Mannesmann Renewables in cooperation with partners such as the Salzgitter Mannesmann Forschung has developed a concept to overcome the technical hurdles and carry out fully mechanised node welding. In the framework of internal, public funded and industrial projects this concept will now developed up to industrial readiness utilizing the newly installed state of the art welding cell.
